Implementation of biogas in the business field, is a creative and innovative step, because in the current era of technology continues to grow and require natural resources that can be said to be limited, the need for reserves or artificial resources. With this matter, it is necessary to know how to build biogas business basically.

Alternative biogas energy is not a new thing anymore for some countries. This technology has been developed since tens of years ago in the UK.Biogas itself is defined as a mixture of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2) and other gases produced from the decomposition of organic materials such as animal waste, human waste, straw, fermented vegetable sorting or metanization process with the help of biodigester. The process of decomposition of organic materials is done by anaerobic system (without oxygen), and biogas will form on 4-5 days after the biodigester is fully charged. Usually biogas produced biodigester consists of a mixture of methane (50-75%), CO2 (25-45%), as well as a number of other small gases such as H2, N2, and H2S.
Making biogas from livestock waste
- Prepare biogas reactor (biodigester) by making hole reactor size (length 4 m, width 1,1 m and depth 1,2 m). While the gas tube sized plastic tube table (length 3 m, width 1.2 m and 1.2 m in diameter). Prepare drums for mixing cow dung with water (1: 1 ratio).
- After the equipment is ready, then make a 2000 liter litter mixture mixed with water (1: 1 ratio).
- Input the biogas material into the reactor through the filling site, then the biogas production process will take place in the reactor (anaerobically). Keep the temperature, pH, stirring, and inhibitory materials well taken care of. This process should take place at a temperature range of 5 ° C - 55 ° C, while the optimum temperature temperature to produce biogas is 35 ° C.
- After about 10 days, biogas reactor and biogas container will be seen to be inflated and hardened because of the biogas produced. And biogas can already be used to turn the biogas stove.
- Occasionally the biogas reactor is shaken for perfect decomposition and the gas formed at the bottom rises upward.
- Further biogas feeding can be done every day, as much as ± 40 liters every morning and afternoon. The remaining processing of biogas materials in the form of sludge will automatically come out of the reactor every time the biogas material is filled. Waste can you use as organic fertilizer, both wet and dry.
Business advantages
As an alternative energy, biogas has eco-friendly properties and can reduce the greenhouse effect. Even when compared to kerosene, the blue flame produced by biogas is also cleaner and does not produce smoke, so the cleanliness of the air around the community will remain well preserved.
In addition, the energy produced biogas can also be used as a powerhouse. The amount of energy is equivalent to 60-100 watts of lights for 6 hours of illumination, so that the alternative energy business of biogas can replace fuel oil and electric energy producer in remote areas. Not only that, biogas waste that turns into slurry (mud) contains many nutrients, making it suitable when used as an organic fertilizer for the agricultural industry.
Business shortage
In running biogas energy business, the difficulties often experienced by business actors is when preparing biogas production equipment or better known as biodigester. Preparation of biogas digester requires a high degree of accuracy and thoroughly mature planning, it is important that the risk of gas leakage as well as the risk of contamination inhibiting materials in the process of decomposition of waste can be minimized. So the quality of biogas produced can be guaranteed, and the production process can run well.
Marketing strategy
For marketing strategy, you can embrace the local community in promoting the benefits of biogas as fuel and alternative electric energy. As a simple example, Milk Breeders Cooperative North Bandung (KPBSU) is now beginning to actively socialize the use of biogas to its 7,000 members to reduce dependence on fuel oil whose price is increasingly rising day.
Through a direct approach to consumers, KPBSU directs the community to build biogas installations as an alternative energy source that is more affordable. The program was quite successful, so most of the cattle ranchers in Bandung and surrounding areas began to free from LPG gas and switch to utilize biogas energy for daily fuel needs.
The key to success
The large number of potential livestock in Indonesia, became one of the keys to the successful development of biogas business in our country. The larger the livestock waste produced, the greater the gateway of success you have to develop biogas waste business opportunity. Most importantly, increase your knowledge and ability in the field of renewable energy, so the biogas production process can run smoothly and the risk of loss can be avoided
the conclusion of the writer as amikom yogyakarta student, biogas is a promising business although not in the present but in the future, because of the depletion of the main resources of coal is getting thinner, this is a very good opportunity in running a business, difficult but promising struggle, willingness and high spirit for a business can grow and survive.
